COOKE BACK TO WINNING FORM

With most of the supporters for both sides still in the Clubhouse finishing off their pre-match Dinner, Cooke kicked off and immediately went on the offensive. Fraser came close to scoring from a solo run but was stopped short of the line. It was Dromore however who put the first points on the scoreboard in the seventh minute from a penalty conversion by Dallas. (0-3)

Three mins later and a quick tap penalty from Manning saw the ball moved quickly out to winger Bunn who scored in the corner. (5-3)

The next 20 mins of play saw opportunities for Dromore to go ahead from penalties but one long range kick was missed, a kickable penalty was kicked to touch and a third penalty, again long range, fell short of the posts. Captain Johnny Keith went off injured during this period and was replaced by impact player (his words not mine) Davy Neill. 32 mins into the game and following 7th phase possession by Cooke, winger Bunn went on one of his blistering runs only to be stopped 10mts short of the line. The ball was quickly re-cycled and prop Seawright burst through the Dromore defence to score unopposed. (10-3)

The first few minutes of the second half saw the Cooke forwards dominating the loose with individual breaks by Greenan, Fraser, Seawright & a 30mts burst by wing forward Kelly. Then on 5mins a quick penalty from Cooke was kicked cross field for Bunn to chase up, gather and score his second try. (15-3)

The next score came in the eleventh minute from a lineout 8mts out from the Dromore line which was won and moved blind side for Kelly to score in the corner. Conversion kicked by Vaisagote (22-3)

Soon after, scrum half Manning kicked up field from within his own half for the ball to hold up just short of the Dromore line. The ball was recycled and fired out the Cooke back line only to have the ball fumbled by winger Bunn looking for his hat-trick score. 2 mins later and the Cooke score line was increased from a penalty conversion by Vaisagote. (25-3)

By this time Dromore were always on the back foot and the next score came on 23mins with the ball worked up field by the forwards to be popped up to an unstoppable Greenan to run in from 30mts and score under the posts. Kick converted by Vaisagote. (32-3)

32 mins and from a Cooke scrum on their own 10mts line the ball went to Wever in the centre whose pace saw him cut through the Dromore defence with a 45mts break and then feed Beggs in support who scored in the corner. (37-3)

One minute later and the referee, to everyone’s amazement, blew his whistle for full time. Overall a better performance by Cooke but against bottom of the League Dromore, it will take much more control and application for their next game in two weeks time against Clogher Valley in the All Ireland Cup away at the Cran.
