COMFORTABLE WIN FOR COOKE

Cooke resumed their league campaign with a home fixture against Limivady who are in the lower half of the table .The away side had the benefit of a strengthening breeze in the 1st half and enjoyed the bulk of possession in the early stages . They took the lead in the 6th minute with a penalty form out-half, Semple. (0-3)

Cooke worked their way back into the game and scored in the 17th minute when Ferguson crashed over following a ruck in the right corner. The difficult conversion was missed. (5-3)

The lead was increased after 24 minutes when Stewart got the ball on the Limivady 10 metre line and broke through a number of tackles to score. Beggs was unable to add the 2 points. (10-3)

Limivady got back into the game when Semple kicked another penalty 3 minutes before the break. (10-6) The half ended with Cooke pressing but the whistle went before a scoring opportunity arose.

The 2nd half started with Cooke making use of the wind advantage and threatening the away side's line. After an altercation in the left corner the referee, who made some puzzling decisions throughout, picked out Greenan and the Limivady scrumhalf and sent them to the bin. 5 minutes later Cooke extended the lead when Beggs sent Glock clear to cross the line and touch down. The fullback found his kicking boots and added the conversion. (17-6)

After Greenan's return a clever pass from Kelly, who was returning from injury, put Stewart over under the posts to secure the bonus point with Beggs again converting. (24-6)

The scoring ended in the 67th minute with Greenan also scoring under the posts with Beggs kicking the conversion. (31-6)

The referee awarded a number of penalties to Limivady who were well beaten and showed little ambition allowing the match to peter out with a final score of 31- 6. It was a satisfactory win after the performances against Enniskillen and Lisburn but a further step up will be required next week at Armagh.
