VALUABLE BONUS POINT AWAY TO OMAGH

In perfect conditions for rugby, Cooke kicked off against a struggling Omagh. After five minutes an excellent cross kick by Stewart was picked up by Montgomery who scored in the corner. (0-5)

A few minutes later Omagh scored an unconverted try following a line-out catch and drive. (5-5)

Against the run of play Omagh then went into the lead, scoring an opportunist try when Cooke were penalised inside the opposition 22 and a quick tap penalty saw Omagh run the ball the length of the field to leave the score (12-5). Cooke soon replied with a converted penalty from Montgomery. (12-8)

Pressure again told with Cooke re-gaining the lead from a good break-out from their own 22 resulting with a try in the corner by Vaisagote. (12-13)

A further penalty was then converted by Montgomery to give Cooke a (12-16) half time lead.

Minutes into the second half Cooke scored their third try when Keith went over in the corner from a line-out drive. Montgomery converted from the touch line. (12-23)

Cooke now needed one more try to gain a bonus point. However, for the next thirty minutes through bad decision making and basic errors they failed to score. Eventually, in the last minutes of the game, Beggs came into the back line at a superb angle and at pace to sore that vital try. Montgomery converted to make the final score (12-30) in Cooke’s favour. With new recruit McCordick performing well in both line-out and loose play he was deservedly awarded the title of ‘Man of the Match.’
