Cooke suffered their first defeat of the season at Carrick in horrendous weather conditions. Cooke were understrength with an inexperieced team coming up against a strong home team fielding a number of players who have featured on their 1sts including the 1st XV captain and Crymble in the back row.
Carrick won the toss and chose to take advantage of the gale force wind blowing down the pitch. The rain came on shortly after kick off to make handling very difficult. The home side not surprisingly dominated territory but the Cooke defence held firm and were forced to run all possession with kicking impossible. Carrick took the lead in the 13th minute when the centre crashed over following a 5 metre scrum. The out half converted. The lead was increased just before half time when the referee allowed Carrick to take a quick penalty in the red zone and the scrum half crossed unopposed. The conversion left the score 14-0 at half time.
Unfortunately the wind died for the 2nd half and therefore there was no advantage from the elements. The game was much more evenly contested but Cooke could not breach the home defence. The outcome could have been different if the referee had not ruled that Pedlow had lost control over the line. With the match over Carrick added a penalty in the last minute.
